Spring into Leifsdottir

Feminine. Classic. Modern. A soft color palette of cream and lilac sets the tone of our look to ultra-femme while the snake skin wedge sandal paired with a classic tailored leather jacket and modern leather clutch finishes the look.

Old Navy Fall 2010 Collection Recos

April 22, 2010 at 8:49 pm (Affordable, Business, Casual, RTW, Uncategorized, Under $40) (, )

To summarize…
*Fun tights that are worth the trip to add to your wardrobe for the season;
*The mustard bubble cord skirt is a fun casual option for either business or weekend;
*Colorful trench coats;
*Poncho style neutral knit top is a great versatile option;
*Faux fur vests!

I have an interesting relationship with this brand. For one, I love the pricing and their relationship to Gap. On the other hand I have a hard time with the fit of their shirts and pants and, well, a lot of the garments I find there. But, that is unique to my specific body shape and I won’t let it cloud my judgment about their Fall 2010 collection. This actually has a lot of potential.

What I love about this 3 piece look are the colors. I love color and I really love the contrast between the 3 pieces. I think this is a great option for business casual. Although the bubble skirt is short I would still see this as a potential look for non-client facing positions where attire is casual. But, I do feel that slim thighs & hips are best suited for this look. If you fall in a different category I want to encourage you to look for a different shape but the same color. No matter what shape or body type you have I definitely recommend those tights which are killer!

This is another great piece. Although I would prefer to see this in person so I could better gauge the weight & feel of the fabric. But, true to my roots, I love this again because this is a gorgeous bright red. A perfect piece for those with a bold personality.

This cowl neck wide sleeve knit poncho style top is a great companion for a pair of straight leg trousers. You can add a bold necklace & bangles to offset the neutral colors but stick with a skinny belt. A wide or thick belt can add too much bulk to your look. And don’t forget an amazing pair of heels or wedges. I love the neutrality of this piece. It can be dressed up for the office or dressed down for the weekend. To dress it down just add a narrow leg pant or jean and ballet flats.

Fur. I like the look & feel of real fur and my jury is still out on the faux fur options. But I can only form my best opinion about the quality of a fur by touching it since looking at a picture can be deceiving.

With that being said, I wanted to point out these 2 faux fur vests in their collection for those who are comfortable with the faux. Honestly, once I get a feel for the black option I may purchase this one for my wardrobe.

Finally, this is another one that I actually picked because of the tights. But, overall this is workable look with the exception of the argyle sweater. I would probably add a different cardigan. But don’t get me wrong. I like the cardigan but I think it should be worn with a different look.

Holiday Jacket 101: The Extreme Basics

November 29, 2009 at 9:41 pm (Affordable, Business, Casual, Cocktail, Day to Evening, Fit Guide, Formal, Holiday, Under $40) (, , , , , , , , , )

Holiday Jacket: Fit Guide

Satin Lapel Single Button Jacket $29.80 @ Forever21

Velvet w/Satin Trim Single Button Jacket $29.80 @ Forever21

Holiday Jacket: Fit Guide

Wool Blend Single Button Tux $32.80 @ Forever21

This post is focusing on the jacket and how to fit it to my body. I have a slight waist with a belly so I need something that adds definition and disguises my tummy. A single breasted jacket with shape detailing, such as princess seams, can be a life saver. Yeah, I haven’t been as dedicated to working out since the baby.  And, I am on the type of  restricted budget you only find in Orwell novels. Yet, I digress.

I am going to try and make this as short, sweet, & as succint as possible. It’s the holidays and I understand that you may not have a lot of time to dawdle. I have this amazing sequin dress I want to wear to a party. A dress is only a dress (even a sequin one) if it isn’t styled properly. Don’t depend on the sequins to ferret you into the highly stylish category in one fell swoop. So, I decided to add a jacket (preferably of a tux style), some light jewelry (since the dress shines enough on its own), a clutch, & shoes.

Feel free to send some feedback or ask questions. I will be more than happy to help you find that piece to put you at the stop of the impressively styled list.

Pugnacious Affectation: Balmain

September 6, 2009 at 8:13 pm (Business, Casual, Day to Evening, Luxury, Paris, RTW (Ready to Wear)) (, , , , , , , )

As the arbiter of the chic tough-femme look, the label has done an excellent job in their interpretation of the strong shoulder trend for this season. Pierre Balmain established the design house post-war in 1945 to return Fashions’ focus to glamorous dressing. After his death in 1982 the house struggled creatively & financially until 2002 when the appointment of Christophe Decarnin – formerly the designer for Paco Rabanne – brought new life to the failing label as a result of his slight alteration of the houses design direction. (1) Now, the label is currently a fave for celebs such as Beyonce & Kim Kardashian who have been spotted on many occasions wearing pieces from the collection. A perfect way to balance this silhouette is to pair it with a fitted top and bottom such as skinny jeans or a pencil skirt. But, if you feel like a line backer in the look then leave it at the store.

Simple Sophisticate: Aquascutum

July 22, 2009 at 6:19 pm (Casual, London, Luxury, RTW) (, , , , , , , , , , )

Pronounced ak-wuh skyoo-tuhm (1) (2) and Latin for water shield, this luxury label was originally established circa 1851 in England for outerwear that is fondly known today as the trench coat. As a perfect example of their “Understated British Elegance” this simple white blouse with a bishop sleeve & fitted cuff has been tastefully paired with the plaid tab front slim pants for their Fall 2009 collection(3) (4). This is an ideal look for doing lunch with other sophisticates.

Poetic Flair: Afshin Feiz

July 14, 2009 at 6:54 pm (Casual, Luxury, Paris) (, , , , , , , )

I have pulled this remarkably gorgeous bishop sleeve chemise dress with a bateau neckline from the Spring 2009 Collection of Afshin Feiz courtesy of Elle.com (1). This is a very simple, elegant, & comfortable look for day time wear. Iranian born & American educated, Afshin launched his first collection in 2004 after leaving college where he studied literature in an effort to make his parents happy while suppressing his need to design. His inspiration by poetry & love is artfully translated in his collections along with the cultural influences gained from his many travels. And, be still my heart! As he is fan of Tom Ford, Proenza Schouler, Alex McQueen, & Stella McCartney – only a handful of my favorites!(2)

Orange Crush: Agnes B.

July 14, 2009 at 6:36 pm (Business, Casual, Luxury) (, , , , , , , , , , )

A lovely colorful printed shirt dress with collar that I pulled from the Agnes B. Spring 2009 collection courtesy of Elle.com(1). You can tone this down with a pair of silver opaque tights or simple bare legs. Keeping it belted will define your silhouette so stick with an orange-red or shiny black patent. Either way this tailored piece will surely get you noticed.
