This post is focusing on the jacket and how to fit it to my body. I have a slight waist with a belly so I need something that adds definition and disguises my tummy. A single breasted jacket with shape detailing, such as princess seams, can be a life saver. Yeah, I haven’t been as dedicated to working out since the baby.  And, I am on the type of  restricted budget you only find in Orwell novels. Yet, I digress.

I am going to try and make this as short, sweet, & as succint as possible. It’s the holidays and I understand that you may not have a lot of time to dawdle. I have this amazing sequin dress I want to wear to a party. A dress is only a dress (even a sequin one) if it isn’t styled properly. Don’t depend on the sequins to ferret you into the highly stylish category in one fell swoop. So, I decided to add a jacket (preferably of a tux style), some light jewelry (since the dress shines enough on its own), a clutch, & shoes.

Feel free to send some feedback or ask questions. I will be more than happy to help you find that piece to put you at the stop of the impressively styled list.

Pugnacious Affectation: Balmain

September 6, 2009 at 8:13 pm (Business, Casual, Day to Evening, Luxury, Paris, RTW (Ready to Wear)) (, , , , , , , )

As the arbiter of the chic tough-femme look, the label has done an excellent job in their interpretation of the strong shoulder trend for this season. Pierre Balmain established the design house post-war in 1945 to return Fashions’ focus to glamorous dressing. After his death in 1982 the house struggled creatively & financially until 2002 when the appointment of Christophe Decarnin – formerly the designer for Paco Rabanne – brought new life to the failing label as a result of his slight alteration of the houses design direction. (1) Now, the label is currently a fave for celebs such as Beyonce & Kim Kardashian who have been spotted on many occasions wearing pieces from the collection. A perfect way to balance this silhouette is to pair it with a fitted top and bottom such as skinny jeans or a pencil skirt. But, if you feel like a line backer in the look then leave it at the store.

Poised Contour: Azzaro

July 20, 2009 at 9:23 pm (Cocktail, Formal, RTW) (, , , , )

The label was established in Paris in 1962 by Tunisian born Loris Azzaro and has been well known amongst the French elite for the bold cut-outs & ornate beading of its pieces. In todays garment marketplace vintage Azzaro is highly coveted (1). Current Creative Director, Vanessa Seward, has kept the Fall 2009 collection true to its roots with this black silk jumpsuit with bishop sleeves and cut out detail at the neckline (2). Add an equally bold cocktail ring and some sparkle to your ears for that J. Lo worthy – entourage inclusive – entrance to any event!

Orange Crush: Agnes B.

July 14, 2009 at 6:36 pm (Business, Casual, Luxury) (, , , , , , , , , , )

A lovely colorful printed shirt dress with collar that I pulled from the Agnes B. Spring 2009 collection courtesy of Elle.com(1). You can tone this down with a pair of silver opaque tights or simple bare legs. Keeping it belted will define your silhouette so stick with an orange-red or shiny black patent. Either way this tailored piece will surely get you noticed.
